In Silence: Maternal Mortality in India

AUTHOR:Photographer Susan Meiselas and Reporter Dumeetha Luthra SOURCE:Human Rights Watch

A powerful video showing the agony that women and families endure when a mother is giving birth in the developing world. This video exemplifies that the problem involves many issues--including the lack of transportation, a health facility that does not have adequate supplies or human resources to deal with complications. Until a holistic and comprehensive strategy is implemented women will continue to die needlessly. Many of these deaths are not recorded! Life For Mother's project in rural Uganda addresses all these factors and can be replicated in other countries as long as each country-context is appreciated.
