Uganda brought to its knees as doctors' strike paralyses health service

AUTHOR:Samuel OkiroSOURCE:The Guardian

Doctors in Uganda continue their strike despite threats from President Museveni. Having worked in Uganda where the health system is so very fragile, with extremely high maternal and infant mortality rates; this work-stoppage can only result in further deaths. It is unfortunate that political will is lacking in order to fairly compensate doctors, nurses, and all medical personal for their dedicated and resilient efforts in providing  services to a population so desperate in need. We, at the Life for Mothers sincerely hope that this calamity will be resolved quickly without additional lives being lost.

Did you know?

Between 1990 and 2008, maternal mortality worldwide dropped by one third.
