Midwife Training in Laos

In Laos, 72 percent of maternal deaths would be preventable with the help of trained birth assistants. There are currently only 100 midwives nationwide. So, after a 20-year hiatus, this South Asian country is again offering midwife training in its capital, Vientiane, and a group of 140 students has already begun its training. Life for Mothers recognizes the vital importance of qualified birth attendants to reducing maternal deaths.
