Ugandan Men Choose Circumcision

The Ugandan government has started a new initiative that promotes male circumcision as a means to prevent the spread of HIV. A recent study found that circumcision can reduce the risk of contracting HIV through vaginal intercourse by up to 60%. Although 25% of men are circumcised nationwide in Uganda, as few as 2.4% are in some of the northern districts. Thus far, the initiative has seen a strong turnout, and over 1,500 men have already undergone the procedure. The program is especially important because it offers free circumcisions to men who could not afford the procedure at its regular price. LfM is excited to hear about this preventative initiative and hopes that it will be expanded. Click here to read the full article.
